Timing is Everything

Last night I played piano at a Christmas party. It was a fun party, and a good crowd. The hosts even had the piano tuned before the party, which pleased me greatly. I brought lyric sheets for sing-a-longs, as the hosts of the party thought this would be a good idea. Throughout the evening, I tried to gently coax those around the piano into singing some Christmas songs, but no one wanted to sing.

I had been booked until 9:30 PM, so when the time came, I put my music away and got up to leave, and say goodbye to the hosts. It was then that a group of guests (who had not been around the piano earlier) all came over to the piano and wanted to do a sing-a-long! Since the hosts of the party were also friends of mine, I gladly obliged, and we all had a wonderful time.

All of this reminded me of something I once read:

"Timing is everything — time is everything else."
